Glenwood South

The Glenwood South District is where Downtown Raleigh blends everyday living with a dynamic, around-the-clock vibe.

Glenwood South is the densest residential area in Raleigh and continues to evolve with new developments like Alexan Moto and 400H, which offer walkable access to nearby businesses and amenities including Publix, one of Downtown Raleigh's two grocery stores.

By day, the neighborhood offers a mix of essential services and laid-back spots to recharge, including salons, fitness studios, shops, art galleries, and cafés.

As the sun sets, Glenwood South comes alive as a go-to destination for nightlife, with a stretch of Glenwood Avenue known for everything from dive bars and one of the world’s largest beer gardens to high-energy dance floors. The district is also home to an award-winning dining scene that reflects our city’s growing global influence.

Tucked within and around the district, Smoky Hollow and Bloc83 introduce pockets of activity with vibrant plazas, local businesses, and gathering spaces for events that connect Glenwood South to the surrounding neighborhoods and the greater Raleigh area.

Downtown Destinations: Glenwood South District 

Friday, April 17th – Friday, May 1st

Starting April 17th, DRA will shine a spotlight on the Glenwood South District as part of Downtown Destinations: a celebration of Downtown Raleigh’s 6 distinct districts and the local businesses, history, and experiences that make each one unique.

Discover what makes this around-the-clock neighborhood a destination by exploring its award-winning restaurants and bars, meeting friends for a round of mini-golf, trying a new fitness studio, and discovering art studios at the historic Carter Building.

Along the way, DRA and friends will share must-try guides, business spotlights, and pro-tips for experiencing everything this vibrant and storied corner of downtown has to offer. The celebration wraps up with a gift card treasure hunt around the district and the unveiling of our newest pop-up ARTivation in Bloc[83] on May First Friday.

Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative

Formed in November 2013, the Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative (GSNC) brings residents and merchants together to strengthen our community and to develop models for communication and collaboration around issues affecting our neighborhood.
