A Progressive Night Out for First Friday

First Friday Raleigh, presented by the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, is a self-guided art walk showcasing the vibrant art and creative community in Downtown Raleigh on the first Friday of every month from 6-9 pm. The free public event features a variety of local art galleries and studios, museums and exhibitors that stay open late, put on special events and often offer refreshments.

With over 80 participating venues it can be a challenge to decide what to do on a First Friday. Luckily, you have us so you don’t have to choose! We’ve curated a list of eight First Friday venues to visit while walking along Martin Street and Hargett Street.

Visit the First Friday venues page for all participating locations, specials, and more.

Did you know that 311 Gallery is one of the largest art galleries in the South? At 4,300 square feet the gallery houses 12 artists’ studios, an exhibition gallery, and a gift shop making it a great place to kick off your night out. While you’re there, enjoy a bottle of LIFEWTR provided by Pepsi and learn about the artist who designed the bottle’s artwork.

Next, head down the block to The Flourish Market. They recently relocated to the Warehouse District and no one does shopping with a purpose like they do. Your purchase helps to provide jobs and fair wages to inspiring artisans and makers in vulnerable communities around the world.

Imurj’s latest gallery exhibit features acrylic paintings meant to be viewed and touched (with clean hands) by David Rubin. Circle back around to Imurj after dinner for a Lake Street Dive unofficial after party and a free show featuring live music by Foxy Moron and more.

Head up to Hargett Street and make a right to visit The Art of Style. Join them in welcoming their artist of the month, Morgan Thompson. Go enjoy the AC, sip chilled drinks, and shop for men and women’s apparel.

Continue your trip eastbound across Hargett Street, and make a right on Fayetteville Street to stop by Mahler Fine Art. It’s a First Friday must to take a walk through their gallery and gaze at their collection of abstract and representational art.

Most people visit Tonbo Ramen for their amazing homemade broths and fresh ramen noodles but their pork buns are also a great choice. Choose between pork belly, lamb, and veggie buns or get a mix of them!

First Friday Special: $4 Buns

It’s dinnertime and the good news is Trophy Tap + Table is only five doors down from Tonbo Ramen. If you’re feeling something lighter for dinner, choose the California chicken tacos or if you’re feeling famished, The Burger (Yes, that’s its name) is sure to fill you up. Rinse it all down with a $6 mini flight of Trophy Husband, Trophy Wife, and Cloud Surfer.

First Friday Special: $6 Mini Flights

It’s been an eventful night out and you could use a place to relax. Head back up to Hargett Street and keep the night going at Watts & Ward. Grab a seat on one of their comfy leather couches and order a house cocktail or grab their version of a classic cocktail while you unwind.
