Ambassador of the Month: John Morgan

May 2020 Ambassador of the Month: John Morgan

The Downtown Raleigh Ambassadors serve to ensure a memorable and welcoming experience for those in our capital city. Each month, one of our Ambassadors is awarded Ambassador of the Month for exemplary service in community engagement and/or safety assistance. For May, the award went to John Morgan, and we sat down to talk to him about his experience as an Ambassador and what he loves about Downtown Raleigh.

DRA: How long have you been an Ambassador?

JM: I’ve been an Ambassador for 2 years

DRA: Why did you decide to pursue this line of work?

JM: I am currently completing an IT Cybersecurity degree and I figured I would go ahead and get my feet wet in the Hospitality/Security work that DRA/StreetPlus offers. I thought it would be a nice stepping stone to future endeavors within the companies.

DRA: What do you like most about what you do?

JM: I like being able to explore the Downtown district while mingling with the community.

DRA: Have there been any specific moments that stick out as memorable for you?

JM: Any day that I am walking around and the community members on the street thank us for the work we contribute to the district is always a memorable feeling.

DRA: What are your favorite spots to grab coffee and a bite to eat in downtown?

JM: I'm not a big coffee fan but when I do go Downtown, I would say MoJoes is my go to spot. It's the best bang for your buck when you you walk as many miles as we do daily.

DRA: You walk all over downtown and so you know it really well. Are there any unknown or little used places that you particularly enjoy?

JM: I would say the Legislative Building park is a relaxing area. Especially during the evening, tranquility at it's best.

DRA: Do you have a favorite part of downtown you like visiting or working in?

JM: Zone 3 which encompasses the right-side heart of Downtown by Moore Square Station, Moore Square Park, the underground type restaurants and mom and pop bars and nightclubs.

DRA: What have you enjoyed seeing happen in downtown most recently?

JM: All the growth happening Downtown. Being able to see it from start to finish has been nice.

DRA: What do you wish people knew about the Ambassadors?

JM: A lot of times we get prejudged for being a certain type of enforcement which we are far from. I just wish people would really look at us for the type of assistance we provide to the community instead of just assuming the worst.

DRA: Anything else you'd like to add?

JM: I would like to thank the community for giving this program a chance to extend the benefits to everyone who is invested in our success.

Thank you, John!
