INTERACTIVE TOPIARY INSTALLATIONS

Roaming DTR through 2024

Embark on a prehistoric adventure with Raleigh’s newest roarsome residents: Bex, Pterry, & Trish. This trio of topiary titans has arrived in our city to guide you along your visit in the heart of downtown, marking the way between museums, local businesses, and attractions.

These installations are a part of our work to develop family-friendly wayfinding in Downtown Raleigh while also celebrating the cutting-edge Dueling Dinosaurs exhibit that recently opened at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.

Want to make a full day of it? Visit all 5 dinosaur-themed locations in Downtown Raleigh.

Our dinosaur friends are ready for their close-up so be sure to capture your stego-selfie and tag #DTRDinos for a chance to be featured!

Bex, T-Rex at Moore Square (they/them) - Moore Square

Meet Bex, the trendiest T. Rex in town who rocks a vinyl collection as extensive as their tiny arms can reach. They can often be spotted squeezing into one of DTR's 20+ coffee shops, savoring a triple shot espresso with a dino-sized grin. Bex has a roar that could shake the shelves, but they'd rather use it to discuss the nuances of classic rock.

Their favorite pastime? Browsing record stores and wondering why no one makes dino-sized headphones.

Pterry (“Terry”) the Pterodactyl (he/him) - Exchange Plaza

Meet Pterry, the one and only pterodactyl who loves to perch on the rooftops of Downtown Raleigh's hottest bars. When he’s not swooping in for happy hour one of the rooftop spots in DTR, he’s scoping out his favorite vendors from above during Fayetteville Street festivals.

His favorite pastime? Spreading his wings to provide the perfect shade for any outdoor concert attendee.

Trish the Triceratops (she/her) - Corner of Morgan & Fayetteville Street

Meet Trish, the triceratops with a flair for vintage finds and a love for leafy greens. She spends her days grazing through thrift shops, hunting for that perfect retro accessory to match her three-horned style.

Her favorite pastime? Catching a delicious salad lunch with friends followed by a sustainable afternoon finding pre-loved gems at the many vintage stores in DTR!
