Storefront Marketing Manager

Job summary:
The Storefront Marketing Manager is a member of the Engagement Team who plays a key role in executing DRA’s mission to advance the vitality of downtown Raleigh through our efforts to improve the downtown economy, our advocacy to make downtown a safe and welcoming place for everyone, and making downtown an engaging place to live, work, and visit. The Storefront Marketing Manager’s primary role is in leading our efforts to support and promote a downtown economy where the storefront business community in Downtown Raleigh can thrive. The Storefront Marketing Manager will work with the Engagement Team to develop and execute special promotions and marketing campaigns that put the spotlight on downtown businesses while driving interest and visitors to the downtown business district. Responsibilities and Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage and execute marketing and communication strategies for DRA storefront business support initiatives including Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week and shopping promotions such as Holiday Hub.
  • Recruit small businesses and storefront businesses for participation in First Friday, Holiday Hub, Restaurant Week and other promotions.
  • Develop content and send email newsletters including weekly e-newsletter, monthly storefront newsletter, quarterly economic development newsletter, and regular communications with sponsors.
  • Represent DRA at downtown small business community groups and other professional organizations.
  • Coordinate public relations strategy for storefront business openings and ribbon cutting ceremonies.
  • Share responsibility for executing social media strategy in partnership with other members of the Engagement Team.

  • Has strong project management skills and can navigate multiple projects at once.
  • Strong time management with the ability to manage competing or shifting priorities.
  • Will thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and be able to work
    independently and as part of a team.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable with face-to-face outreach at public meetings and events.
  • Has a working knowledge of and can implement communications, marketing, and public relations industry best practices.
  • Must be a seasoned user of Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Having experience using our content management systems and communications and marketing tools such as SproutSocial, District360, and Mailchimp is preferred but not required.
  • Graphic design, video production, and photography skills are definitely a plus but not required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field, or equivalent amount of
    experience, knowledge, and skills that will enable you to perform the tasks of the job proficiently.
  • At least two years of professional or applied experience in communications, marketing, or digital communications/social media.

Compensation
The Storefront Marketing Manager is an exempt employee. Compensation ranges from $55,000 to $62,000 and shall be commensurate with experience and will qualify for a generous benefits package to include health, dental, and retirement contributions. Vacation and sick time are also included.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Position Environment
The Storefront Marketing Manager is able to work a hybrid schedule at this time, with a mix of in-office and remote work weekly.

Small Business Program Manager

Job summary:

Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) seeks a skilled and motivated economic development professional to lead small business support and retail activation efforts in Downtown Raleigh. The Small Business Program Manager is responsible for small business development and support, DRA grant administration, leading welcoming and onboarding of new businesses, filling and activating storefronts, tracking business activity and managing storefront business data and information to support the organization’s mission and goals.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Lead administration of the DRA Storefront Upfit Grant program, DRA Pop-Up Shops at Martin Street retail incubator program, and storefront business assistance programs including DRA-produced small business workshops.
  • Manage tracking of downtown storefront business activity and ensure that all appropriate internal databases are maintained accurately, including: business openings/closings, business contact information, and other applicable data.
  • Welcome new businesses to Downtown Raleigh, leading initial communication, tracking and setting up of introductory meetings with DRA staff in advance of opening.
  • Proactively develop relationships with storefront business operators and commercial real estate professionals, being an advocate and conduit for information and issue resolution.
  • Lead efforts to activate and fill storefronts including conducting targeted storefront recruitment, responding to requests for information and site searches, and facilitating lease conversations with landlords and real estate brokers.
  • Support production of data and analysis for annual State of Downtown report, quarterly economic development reports, and specialized packages of information for inquiries and prospects.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of the organizational CRM database, assisting with the development of new database capacity and functionality, identification of downtown businesses and stakeholders, and regular maintenance of storefront-related information.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent amount of experience, knowledge, and skills that will enable you to perform the tasks of the job proficiently.
  • One to three years of professional experience. Applied experience in retail, restaurant operations, economic development, commercial real estate, and/or small business administration preferred.
  • Applied graduate coursework may be considered towards relevant experience.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong project management and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of the operations and successful development of small businesses, including but not limited to retail, restaurant and service business models.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable interacting with, diverse groups including developers, business entrepreneurs, property owners, residents and government officials.
  • Familiarity with commercial real estate and demographic data sources is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of database applications, desired, but not required.
  • Ability to manage and advance multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience thriving in a high-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Position Environment:

The Small Business Program Manager will work out of the DRA administrative office in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The individual will interface with business and property owners, residents, community members, government staff, and service providers. Due to the nature of the position, it is
expected that this individual may be required to work outside of the normal 8:30am to 5:00pm office hours. DRA currently provides a flexible work schedule with in-office work necessary on a weekly basis and hybrid work possible with supervisory approval.

Communications & Marketing Director

Job summary:

Are you a communications professional with a passion for the Downtown Raleigh community? Do you want to develop strategic marketing and communications campaigns that help support downtown Raleigh’s storefront businesses? Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) seeks an innovative and experienced communications professional to enhance the organization in all aspects of marketing and communications strategies. This position will lead DRA’s communications and marketing strategies with opportunity for advancement in the organization.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Develop and lead integrated marketing strategies to support DRA programs, events and initiatives to include advertising, social media, emails, content creation and blog, public relations, video, printed collateral.
  • Manage DRA video and graphic design needs, identifying needs, managing projects with outside vendors within budget and keeping on schedule.
  • Lead marketing and communications strategy and execution for DRA marketing programs including First Friday, Downtown Raleigh Restaurant Week and holiday shopping campaigns. Includes engaging with downtown businesses and stakeholders to understand marketing needs and develop strategies accordingly.
  • Lead media and public relations strategy including advertising, managing media requests, and press releases.
  • Provide support and review on weekly newsletter and produce other newsletters/e-blasts as needed.
  • Supervise and manage Digital Communications Manager, who executes DRA social media and newsletters. Supervision duties include strategizing with Digital Communications Manager on social media content, overseeing content calendar, reviewing newsletters, blog posts and website content as well as other written communications, as needed.
  • Work with President & CEO to set budget for communications and marketing department and manage the budget on an ongoing basis

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, emphasis in communications preferred; Master’s degree encouraged but not required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in marketing and communications with demonstrated success.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

The Communications and Marketing Director is a non-exempt employee. Compensation shall be competitive and commensurate with experience and will qualify for a generous benefits package to include health, dental, and retirement contributions. Vacation and sick time are also included.
