Parks for the People

Gabriel Eng-Goetz
2022

Category: Mural

"This Dix Park-themed mural combines imagery of past and present to remind us of our own unbreakable connection to the people and places that came before us. It encourages us to reflect on Dix Park's past while also building towards a bright future and connecting with the park's open, green spaces.

Hidden in the imagery tells the story of Dix Park from emancipation to mental health to Indigenous people. It features the park’s signature sunflowers and ginkgo tree. And has a cameo of the superstar painted bunting seen at the park. The young boy holds a letter for the future and a better tomorrow." - Raleigh Murals Project

The mural was designed and painted by Gabriel Eng-Goetz and commissioned by the Dix Park Conservancy. A partnership with Raleigh Murals Project, Trophy Brewing, and Downtown Raleigh Alliance.
