RALEIGH, NC (June 22, 2016) – The Downtown Raleigh Alliance is excited to host Cheese Please! at the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market in City Plaza on Wednesday, June 29 from 10 am – 2 pm.
Cheese Please! is the Market’s fifth annual celebration of all things cheese. The highlight of the event is a friendly grilled cheese cook-off among downtown Raleigh chefs. Each chef will concoct his or her own version of the classic grilled cheese sandwich in hopes of being crowned “Cheese Champ,” making Cheese Please! a favorite day at the Market each year. Chef Clay McClinnham from Jimmy V’s Osteria & Bar is putting his title on the line against Chef Michael Rigot from Rye Southern Bar & Kitchen, Chef Amanda Haisley from Buku, Chef Andrew Klamar from Linus & Pepper’s, and Chef Gregg Hamm from P.G. Werth’s. Marketgoers will be able to sample each of the chefs’ creations and vote for their favorite.
The competition will take place from 11:45 am – 1 pm.
Local cheese vendors Hillsborough Cheese Company and Orrman’s Cheese Shop will also be on-site for the event.
Event-goers may purchase whole grilled cheese sandwiches from food truck American Meltdown while enjoying live music by Urban Soil Trio.
As always, the Market will host a variety of regular vendors, including North Carolina farmers, ranchers, nurserymen, bakers, specialty food producers, and craftsmen.
The Market runs every Wednesday through September 28. For more information, please visit www.RaleighEatLocal.com.
Please note that Fayetteville Street will be closed between Davie and Lenoir Streets each Wednesday, through September 28, from 6 am – 4 pm for the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market.
