Downtown Raleigh Continues Period of Unprecedented Growth
RALEIGH, NC (May 16, 2016) – New data from the Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) shows downtown Raleigh continues to grow at a rapid rate.
At its State of Downtown event late last month, DRA announced downtown Raleigh is in the midst of a $1.1 billion construction boom, which includes more than 2,800 new residential units, and more than one million square feet for office space. The new residential space is expected to drive another 4,500+ residents to downtown.
During the first quarter of 2016 alone, downtown Raleigh saw 11 new street level businesses open, with more openings coming soon.
“Downtown continues to grow at an unprecedented rate in all asset classes. The first quarter showed strong growth in our restaurant sector with several new restaurants opening and 18% growth in food and beverage sales for this quarter over first quarter 2015,” says DRA planning and development manager Bill King.
More information, including additional data on market trends, population, demographics, development, and a look at future projections for downtown Raleigh is available in the State of Downtown Raleigh 2016 and the Economic Development Report – First Quarter 2016.
