Downtown Raleigh Alliance Hosts Tree Lighting Celebration at New Location
RALEIGH, NC (November 13, 2018) - The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) is hosting downtown’s annual tree lighting at a new location this year. The Downtown Raleigh Tree Lighting Celebration will take place on Friday, November 30 from 6pm – 7pm at Lichtin Plaza at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
The Downtown Raleigh Tree Lighting Celebration is a free family–friendly event to usher in the holiday season. There will be live music entertainment including holiday carolers, as well as sweet treats and refreshments. Santa Claus and his elves will mingle with the crowd that evening, be available for photos, and hand out treats. Families are encouraged to bring their cameras for the opportunity to take a free photo with Santa Claus. Visit a pop-up version of Marbles Kids Museum’s Corner Store with unique gifts and stocking stuffers.
At approximately 6:15 pm, Mayor Nancy McFarlane, along with members of Raleigh City Council, will take the stage to light Downtown Raleigh’s tree. The tree lighting will be aired live on ABC11. This year, a Menorah will also be on the plaza, lit beginning on Sunday, December 2 to celebrate Hanukkah.
Kristopher Larson, President & CEO of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, added, “We’re excited to enhance this holiday kickoff tradition by locating the tree in a location that is much more visible and expanding the installations to ensure that more area residents feel included in the celebration.”
