Calling Adults and Children to Enter Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest's Annual Gingerbread House Competition

Calling Adults and Children to Enter Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest's Annual Gingerbread House Competition

RALEIGH, NC (October 31, 2016) – The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) is calling all bakers and crafters to embrace the holiday spirit at our annual Gingerbread House Competition. The competition is part of Raleigh’s premier holiday celebration, Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest. DRA produces Winterfest each year as part of its mission to produce high quality events in downtown’s public space. This year’s festival starts at an earlier time, from 12 noon until 8 pm, and features rides, Santa’s Village, the Ice Raleigh Skating Rink, beer, several food trucks, musical acts, and the official tree lighting ceremony.

DRA is excited to bring back this favorite attraction of Winterfest for a third year with a new children's category. Children ages 14 and under may enter the kids category, and young adults 15 and up may enter the adult category. Competitors may register as individuals, groups, or companies as a team building exercise.

Over a dozen entries and hundreds of public viewers are expected at the event. This year’s entries will be on display from 12 noon until 6 pm at 401 Fayetteville Street, the old Omega World Travel space, during the Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest event on Saturday, December 3.

Gingerbread enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to participate in the competition. All, from the young to the young-at-heart, are encouraged to bond with family and friends over icing and gumdrops.

Contestants should seek to creatively fashion their house, bungalow, or whatever their minds imagine with gingerbread, candies, and other edible items.

The top creation in each category plus a "best in show" creation chosen by a panel of judges will each receive a fantastic downtown prize package.

Registration is FREE, and is open now through Monday, November 21. Interested parties may register here.

Find full competition guidelines on the Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest website.
