Raquel Assanoua is a self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist based in Raleigh, NC. Originally from Miami, FL, but she was born in Liberia, Africa derived of Panamanian, African, and French descent. Raquel’s artistic style is very eclectic. As a woman of color, she wants to show the beauty of her African and Latina heritage as well as the cultures of other unique women that are underrepresented in art and in society. Belleza Del Mar was inspired by her fascination with beautiful betta fish.

As for this project, Belleza Del Mar was inspired by her fascination with beautiful betta fish. Raquel wanted to illustrate something that would catch the eye of the beholder and cause the observer to stop…take a closer look at the vibrancy of whimsical little details…then smile.
