This class will acquaint you with all things weird and surreal in poetry. Do you struggle with hesitation while writing, either from lack of ideas or anxiety concerning the strangeness of those ideas? Sometimes we block our own best ideas before we get a chance to write them down. In this workshop, we’ll look at examples of poets who have surrealist elements and/or associative tangents in their work. We’ll use prompts meant to dig into the subconscious and dreamscape--areas where the mind wanders freely, often into fantastic realms. The goal is to feel comfortable embracing the images and ideas that make your writing unique, no matter how strange they seem. During our four weeks together, you will write at least two poems with time to give and receive feedback on those poems. This class is suited for writers of all skill and comfort levels.
