In Paris of 1913, two drastically different ballets premiered and marked a new musical era. Debussy’s Jeux was utterly elegant; Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring was raw and untamed. For his final statement as Music Director, Grant Llewellyn offers the striking combination of these two ballet scores, together with Wagner’s Prelude from Parsifal — his final masterpiece. The program, and the season, concludes with the earth-shattering Rite.
