Ableism is discrimination and social prejudice against people with physical or mental disabilities. Ableism defines people by their abilities, and creates a hierarchy that prefers bodies that “can do more” over chronically and temporarily disabled bodies.
The Current Topic: When Ableism Enters the Picture. Why (and when? and where? and how?) do you choose to move your body, or not move your body? How has that changed over the years? What does it mean and how do you react when your body can’t do as much as someone else, or as it previously could? Let’s talk about ableism in movement spaces, internalized and systemic. Let’s deconstruct the societal link between morality and movement. Bring your stories, your feelings, and your friends.
When: Saturday, July 20th at 3pm
Where: The Movement Studio at Current Wellness
Cost: Free! Registration Required. (Registration opens 6/29)
