Join award-winning filmmaker Gina Kim, State Representative Maria Cervania, and State Representative Ya Liu for a discussion of the current state of the Asian community, set against the backlash of Covid and the organization and activism of the Asian community in response.
Ms. Kim will show excerpts from her Peabody-nominated film "Rising Against Asian Hate: One Day in March" about the 2021 Atlanta spa killings and their aftermath and will lead a conversation with representatives Liu and Cervania about their paths to the statehouse.

Ya Liu, NC State Representative
Representative Ya Liu is a first-term Democratic NC House Representative serving west Cary and Morrisville. Representative Liu is the first and only Chinese American woman to have served in the NC General Assembly.
Gina Kim, Award winning Executive Producer, flown in from NYC
Gina Kim is an Emmy and Peabody nominated film and television producer and the executive producer of Rising Against Asian Hate: One Day in March, a PBS documentary that chronicles the escalating violence against Asian Americans.
Maria Cervania, NC State Representative
Maria Cervania is serving her first term in the North Carolina General Assembly as a member of the NC House of Representatives of the 41st District. She is one of the first Asian American women to be elected to the NCGA and the first person of Filipino descent to be an elected official in North Carolina.
