Join Artspace for Painting The Legacy: A Conversation & Celebration honoring black excellence in North Carolina and centering our HBCU Artist in Residence program with art and music experiences.

Painting The Legacy will begin with a conversation facilitated by Mike Williams of The Black on Black Project followed by a celebration with Professor X on the 1s and 2s. Guests are encouraged to rep their favorite HBCU, Greek or Social Organization. Use #PaintingTheLegacy and @artspacenc.

The event is free but registration and donations are encouraged. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Artspace’s HBCU Artist in Residence program.

Conversation // 2-3pm
Learn about the cultural, political, and social impacts of HBCUs in North Carolina during a special conversation facilitated by Mike Williams of The Black on Black Project. Panelists include Ms. Bertha Boykin Todd, Dr. Dolly Mullen, Dr. Dwight Mullen, and Jalen Jackson, Artspace HBCU Artist in Residence.

Celebration // 3-6pm
-Dance and groove your way through Artspace with sounds by Professor X
-Meet our inaugural HBCU Artist in Residence Jalen Jackson and learn more about Artspace’s HBCU Artist in Residence program
-Explore exhibitions including Carolina Roots with work from NC rural based artists, ReMix, Artspace Studio Artist Showcase, and N.C Historically Black Colleges & Universities with work by Shawn Etheridge
-Create your own legacy with a paint & sip activity hosted by Shawn Etheridge
-Meet and shop with Artspace’s 30+ studio artists
-Indulge on our signature cocktails, mimosas, beer, and wine available for purchase
-Purchase desserts from Nana’s Sweet Treats ~ An Edible Blessing
