See Mike Krause on October 9th from 9-11pm at Slim’s! Mike Krause is a versatile guitarist, composer, and educator with a career spanning more than three decades. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he began his musical journey at Philadelphia’s Settlement Music School, where he studied percussion from a young age. He later sharpened his skills in Cleveland and Boston, soaking up jazz, classical, rock, R&B, big band, and Latin grooves before returning to stick work under the tutelage of legendary percussionist Alan Dawson. Mike honed his skills as a professional percussionist before transitioning to guitar, which became his main instrument and artistic voice.
As a guitarist, Mike has performed at international festivals and venues, from SXSW in Austin to Zurich, Switzerland, and the Stone Free Music Festival in Thailand. His work has been featured on NPR’s The State of Things, and he has contributed to more than twenty studio albums. Collaborations include projects with acclaimed artists such as Tift Merritt, Caitlin Cary, Tres Chicas, and Thad Cockrell, as well as session work alongside musicians connected to Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ryan Adams, and Yo La Tengo.
In addition to performing, Mike has dedicated over 35 years to teaching. He co-founded Cary Guitar Lessons in North Carolina, where he offers instruction in technique, theory, improvisation, and transcription across a wide range of styles, including blues, rock, country, and jazz. His work as both a performer and educator reflects his passion for helping others engage deeply with music while continuing to expand his own artistry.
You won’t want to miss this performance shaped by years of experience, global influences, and a lifelong dedication to the craft of music.
