Alternative rock, folk, and bluegrass tunes August 9th from 9-11pm at Slim’s featuring Jake Potter with Ol’ Joey Scrums!

Jake Potter grew up on the southeastern coast of North Carolina, where salty ocean air and the complexity of growing up in a military town funneled straight into his music. Now in Raleigh, the singer-songwriter spent several years playing shows while still flavoring his own brew of alternative country and rootsy rock n roll. Potter gleaned ingredients from his stretches in journalism, romance, Southern living and Saturday night rambling, crafting them into songs about hard-luck nights on the town, ghost stories from murky backwaters, and the hardscrabble of life. Whether alone with an acoustic guitar and harmonica or backed by friends with assorted talents and electric instruments, his brand of three-chord storytelling pours heartbreak, hard work and humor together into a rocks glass. His band features Jake Potter on vocals and guitar, Joel Vance on drums and vocals, Dave Minella on bass, and Clay Conner on guitar, pedal steel, and lap steel.

Ol' Joey Scrums expertly blends folk, rock, and bluegrass influences into a genre-defying sonic experience, conveying personal stories of authentic emotion and the essence of Americana. With diverse instrumentation and a genuine passion for their craft, they draw upon their varied backgrounds and personal experiences to create art that resonates deeply with audiences. Frequently collaborating with local artists and venues, they have cultivated a dedicated fan base both in and around their home of Raleigh, NC, and worldwide through online streaming and social media. The band features Joe Ralli on vocals and guitar, Ian Klug on bass, vocals, guitar, and mandolin, Dakotah Kelly on banjo, guitar, and harmonica, and Martin Noffsinger on drums and percussion. The members of Ol' Joey Scrums met while performing individually at local live shows and open-mic events in 2022. After over a year of writing, recording, and performing together, they released their debut album "4004" ("forty oh-four") in February of 2024. They are currently mixing and mastering their second studio album, "A Damn Fine Time", to be released in 2025.
