Join Artspace Universal Access Artist in Residence Jimena Vergara-Sanz for this ritual.
In this ritual, each participant will collect their menstrual blood in white textile cloth and then do reflection and introspection about “the last stain” symbol. While doing this introspection, the stain will become a message, and participants will do embroidery on the stain to embellish this message and re-signify this stage through beauty.
This ritual is particularly meaningful for people approaching menopause. Although menopause is often associated with feelings of sadness and nostalgia, it is actually a profound moment for introspection and accessing wisdom. By collecting the final menstrual stain on a piece of cloth, observing it during meditation, and expressing ourselves through art, we can fully embrace this stage of life and tap into its transformative potential.
