The world is trying to speak to us. Are you listening? Close attention to the world leads to powerful poem-making and also to the realization that our natural world can be both threatened and continually awe-inspiring. Through this six-week course, we will read eco-poems by contemporary poets such as Camille T. Dungy, Ada Limón, Claire Wahmanholm, Jane Hirschfield, and Ross Gay, among others. We will write our own poems rooted in the natural world and do creativity-boosting writing exercises in class. Students will be encouraged to keep journals, and we will share our work with each other in a welcoming workshop setting. This course is designed for students of all levels.
