Details
In this Redbud Writing Project creative writing class, we’ll mine the world around us for inspiration: we’ll write flash pieces inspired by items ranging from postcards, menus, lists, photographs, maps, calendars, boardgames, natural phenomenon and/or other eclectic items. We’ll also read and discuss stories that engage with unique inspirations, including T.C. Boyle’s “Chicxulub” (featuring a meteor!), Neil Gaiman’s “Orange” (responses to an investigator’s questionnaire!); and Sofia Samatar’s “Walkdog” (in the form of a high school essay!). We will workshop several of the flash pieces. By the end of this class, you will be prepared to see inspiration in the both the strange and the mundane and find new ways of engaging with narrative.
