Are you tired of fitness and yoga spaces that feel more like punishment than empowerment? Do you feel like something is off when your fitness instructor talks about burning calories and earning “cheat” meals?

Join us for Cultivating Body Respect: A Weight-Neutral Approach to Fitness and Yoga, a workshop that invites you to unlearn the weight-obsessed messaging of mainstream movement culture and reconnect with movement in a way that feels joyful, sustainable, and liberating. This workshop is great for folks who are in the early stages of unlearning diet culture and/or for folks who want reminders to deepen their roots in body liberation.
Rooted in the principles of Health at Every Size® (HAES®), this workshop explores how fitness and yoga have been shaped by diet culture, capitalism, and white supremacy; why a weight-centric approach to movement can harm physical and mental health; and what it looks like to shift toward a weight-inclusive, body-affirming movement practice.

Whether you’re a yoga student, fitness lover, or someone working to heal your relationship with movement, you’ll leave with tools to reimagine fitness and yoga as practices of care, not control.

All bodies, identities, and experience levels are welcome.

Workshop goals include increasing awareness of the ways mainstream fitness and yoga spaces reinforce weight stigma; exploring how a weight-centric approach can be harmful to both physical and mental health; introducing the principles of HAES and how they apply to movement; and inviting a more inclusive, joyful, and sustainable relationship with fitness and yoga.
