ChoRuss is a Russian Choral Ensemble hailing from St. Petersburg, Russia. The name “ChoRuss” means “Choir of Russia,” and the ensemble of 4-8 singers was founded in 2012 by Miroslav Alekssev and Dmitry Petrov. The group focuses on sacred music of the Russian Orthodox tradition, with a particular focus on composers of the 19th and 20th Centuries such as: Dmtry Bortniansky, Sergei Rachmaninov, Peter Tchaikovsky, and Pavel Chesnokov. They perform a cappella, as in the tradition of Orthodox music where musical instruments are not used.
In addition to its sacred repertoire, the ensemble sings Russian folk tunes and songs of the second World War. ChoRuss tours extensively in Europe to Germany, France, Switzerland, and the UK. In 2016, the ensemble also began touring the United States, where they have performed in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and many more. On March 21, 2018, CDs of ChoRuss were sent to the International Space Station from the Baikonur cosmodrome, and returned from orbit on October 4, 2018.
