About the Artists
Johnny Sunrise -
"Hailing from Western Massachusetts, and now based in Carrboro, NC, Johnny Sunrise is an indie folk rock singer-songwriter who draws inspiration from love, longing, the “quarter-life crisis,” and the uncertainty of life. Although Johnny grew up with music primarily as a drummer, his unforeseen travels up and down the east coast and the isolation caused by the COVID pandemic brought him closer to his neglected guitar. Johnny has carved a place in the NC triangle music scene over the past couple of years performing original songs with honest lyrics and a soulful voice. Always with a smile and a healthy dose of banter.------
Max Lane -
Max Lane is no stranger to the scene. After years away from his craft, 2023 marked his return in prolific fashion, with two acclaimed singles and a live EP.
Based in Hillsborough, North Carolina, Max brings the essence of his two homes to every note, delivering music that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant. Lane’s journey back to music is deeply personal.
Max's music is steeped in vintage country, with his resonant baritone voice delivering introspective, soul-baring lyrics. Drenched in the rich influences of his Louisiana roots and the folk traditions of his current home in central North Carolina, his music strikes a deeply authentic chord.
Drawing inspiration from the sounds of gospel, soul, and classic country legends like Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and John Moreland, Lane's songs weave raw narratives of sobriety, community, and introspection. Whether belting out powerful reflections on life’s struggles or evoking tears with his poignant tales of connection and loss, Lane’s music defies rigid categorization. While he embraces a folk-leaning approach, he occasionally delivers the rowdy country energy of his southern roots.
