Yin Yoga is the perfect way to balance the heat of summer!

According to Chinese Medicine, the summer season is associated with the element of fire. Fire is lively, active, and beautiful, however, its power needs containment so it doesn’t burn out of control.

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga with poses, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time—typically from 1 to 5 minutes or more. This practice targets the deep connective tissues, such as ligaments, bones, and joints, as well as the fascia (the network of connective tissue that runs throughout the body). Yin Yoga is a gentle yet profound practice. It offers an alternative or complement to more dynamic yoga styles and other physical activities, promoting overall balance and well-being.

This four-week yin yoga series, led by Kelsey McKaplan, is a complementary practice to the more active season of summer. Students move slowly through the poses, holding each for several minutes to support mobility, regulate the nervous system, and cultivate subtle-body balance. The long-held poses stimulate deeper tissues in the body such as fascia, ligaments, tenons, and bones to nourish and strengthen.
