Celebrate the work of 30 HBCU student and alumni artists and learn about Artspace's artist residency for HBCU alumni!
Join us for an evening celebrating the creativity, legacy, and continued impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities through ALL AMERICAN, a group exhibition featuring the work of more than thirty HBCU students and alumni from across the country.
Enjoy music, light refreshments, and time to explore the exhibition while connecting with participating artists and the Artspace community. Throughout the evening, guests are invited to visit current HBCU Alumni Artist-in-Residence Lamar Whidbee in the residency suite and attend an information session led by Artspace President and CEO Carly Jones and Artist Programs Manager Alexandra Jane to learn more about the HBCU Alumni Artist-in-Residence Program, including its mission, application process, and residency experience.
Show your school spirit by wearing your HBCU apparel, Greek letters, or representing your alma mater, favorite team, community organization, or school colors! Visitors will also have the opportunity to have their "yearbook photo" taken by photographer Sanjé James, in support of Artspace with a small suggested donation.

6:30–7:15 PM | HBCU Alumni Artist-in-Residence Information Session
7:15–8:00 PM | Visit Lamar Whidbee's residency studio, enjoy the exhibition, connect with artists, and have your yearbook photo taken
About the HBCU Alumni Artist Residency
This year-long residency focuses on graduates from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Upon graduation, students often lose resources, equipment, colleagues, and mentors. The HBCU Alumni Residency seeks to remedy those issues by extending the learning process and broadening the experience for graduates to build their careers as visual artists. There are more 4-year HBCUs in North Carolina than anywhere else in the country, and this residency aims to highlight and support the many talented artists graduating from these culturally rich institutions. This career-stimulating residency for an emerging artist includes a rent-free studio for one year with 24-hour access within a collaborative environment with 30+ other professional artists and art administrators.
