RALEIGH, NC - Burning Coal Theatre Company is proud to announce the first play of the 25-Anniversary Season in Raleigh, NC. The season will begin with I and You by Lauren Gunderson (October 7 – 24, 2021).

About I and You
I and You by Lauren Gunderson will be directed by London-based director Lucy Jane Atkinson. It concerns a young teenager, Caroline, who is housebound with a debilitating illness. Forced to stay home there in Raleigh, NC while the world spins ever on around her, she is growing increasingly bored, angry and desperate. Then a stranger calls. His name is Anthony. He is a young black man from her school, a member of the basketball team and a star in the firmament of their high school’s galaxy of well-liked kids. And although she doesn’t know him, has never met him, he has brought Caroline a gift.

About Lauren Gunderson
Lauren Gunderson has been the most produced playwright in America (who’s name isn’t William Shakespeare) in three of the last four years. Originally from Alabama, she now calls San Francisco home. Her work includes Silent Sky, Ada and the Engine, The Book of Will, The Taming and many others.

About Lucy Jane Atkinson
Born in London, Award-winning director Lucy Jane Atkinson continues to direct plays that deal with relevant topics seen in Whack (Here For Now, Knox Amphitheater, Stratford Ontario,), Something Awful(Flux Theatre, VAULT Festival,), and Vespertillio(Fight and Hope, Dublin Fringe).

I And You is a thoughtful and energetic play about two teenagers who seemingly have nothing in common, except a mysterious class poetry assignment about Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. All performances of I and You will take place at Burning Coal, 224 Polk Street, Raleigh, NC. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. I and You will run from October 7 to October 24, 2021. All tickets are $25, $20 for seniors (65+) or $15 for students, teachers, and active military.
